How Long Is Forever?
This question has forever plagued humankind. Sometimes forever is a lifetime; sometimes it is just a second. People always go for forever, as if the word forever has become accessible in the eyes of man. After I saw the words carved on trees, rocks, and caves, these thoughts came to my mind. Isn't it true that everyone who carves in these places is thinking of being remembered forever?
My work is a group of landscape photography. Most of the rocks are carved with people's initials or some words. Of course, in one of my photos, I also captured the carving of "Corona 2020" and similar inscriptions about the epidemic. The inscriptions or drawings on these natural objects have been around since the time of our ancestors. Nowadays, people record their names and events, and dates that they want to record on these natural objects. Like the most primitive desires to eat, sleep, etc., inscribing natural objects that seem to last "forever" seems to be a unique desire that belongs only to us humans. Therefore, we will inscribe some information that we think is worthy of being inscribed on these places, become one with nature, and stay there "forever" in a natural way.
Furthermore, the brutal truth is that even rocks, trees, and natural objects that never seem to go away, will slowly disappear. So often, the definition of "forever" for us becomes living longer than ourselves. I went to many, many places to take these pictures. And while I was going to these places, I also got close to nature and learned about nature. Sometimes nature is not that complicated in relationship with the human. When we try to leave a string of symbols of "forever" through nature, we should think about what is "forever"?
